The Oze Purari Hall is located near the junction to the Hatomachi Pass, an entrance to Ozegahara on the way to Snow Park Oze Tokura on Route 401. The intake of Tokura Yusui is set up in front of the Oze Purari Hall.
History
Since the Kura District has abundant hot springs, there are many family-operated bread and breakfasts, inns, and pensions, which form a base to Ozegahara and Snow Park Oze Tokura. The district had served as a center of trading between Joshu (Gunma) and Aizu (Fukushima) from the Edo period to the middle of the Meiji period. Route 401 was called Numata Kaido (way) (or Numata Aizu Kaido) at that time. Daily goods, oil, and salt were shipped from Joshu (Gunma) while rice and sake were brought in from Aizu. In memory of a checkpoint that used to be installed here, part of the checkpoint is restored in front of Purari Hall.
While horses were used as a means of transportation of trading goods, cows were also used in other regions. However, legend has it that the entry of cows into Oze was forbidden, which is called "Ushidome no seki (checkpoint not to allow the entry of cows)." However, some people broke this rule and tried to transport goods using cows right before the Meiji period. Naturally, there were conflicts between these carriers and officials at the checkpoint. What was the result? (This episode was excerpted from the Picture Book on the Legends of Oze. For details, please read the book. See below.)
Surrounding Area Information
There are many streams with scenic beauty in the mountains surrounding Tokura. Some of them were formed by spring water whose source was subsoil water. Tap water in this district is supplied from a reservoir of the spring water. The intake of spring water in front of Oze Purari Hall has the same spring water as a source.

Oze Purari Hall
Oze Purari Hall is a PR facility managed by Katashina Village. It also serves as one of the activity bases of the TEPCO Nature School (Oze and Tokura). In the Hall, exhibitions on "Mechanism of biodiversity in Oze and Tokura" and "Seasonal animals and plants" and seasonal nature experience programs are conducted. Any visitors can participate in them. Since there is also a bath facility for day trippers, come and ease your sore muscles from hiking in Oze or skiing and snowboarding in a hot bath.
