伊閑町 is read as Ikancho. It used to be written as 伊閑丁. We do not know why and when it was changed.

History

This is Shin Hagiwara. Since generations before the generation of his grandfather, the Hagiwara family has engaged in farming here. The intake of this clear water is located 20 meters away from his house. It has been providing cool, tasty water incessantly.
The community people call him "Big Brother Shin-san." When he was a child, eight farm families used this clear water for domestic use. It seems that their ancestors found this spring water, settled down here as it seemed to be fertile land with blessed water, and brought the land under cultivation.

This storehouse was built in 1905 by Suekichi, grandfather of Big Brother Shin. It means that the storehouse was built over 100 years ago. Currently, it is used as a back shed to store food, such as vegetables and pickles, old furniture, and household goods. There is a concrete wall to the right of the storehouse to protect it from landslides. When building the wall, the area surrounding it was dug up to bury supporting columns. The gushing point of spring water is just five to six meters away from the concrete wall. Community people including Big Brother Shin were afraid that the spring water might stop running due to the construction work. Fortunately, however, the clear water of Ikancho still keeps gushing while reflecting the blaze of the mid-summer sun. The spring water must be gushing out from the subsoil water that has accumulated deep in the ground.
