The intake of spring water is set up next to the entrance of Hana-no-eki Katashina Hanasaku-no-yu Spa, a public one-day spa in Katashina Village.
花咲 is pronounced as Hanasaku, not Hanasaki. The spring water of Hanasaku is drawn from a distribution reservoir whose raw water is the subsoil water of Mt. Hotaka. It can be said that this water is sort of a cousin of the spring water introduced in the Hotaka Yusui section.

History

In this district of Katashina Village, there is a legend that a protective female deity of the mountain called Juni-sama has been living here. Community people have long regarded this area as a sacred place. Another legend says that injured wild boars and deer used to come down to a natural watering trough and drink this spring water to cure their injuries. The legend shows that people had special feelings for the mountains and water. It is truly blessed water that cures people both mentally and physically.

Surrounding Area Information

Many people come and visit the Hanasaku-no-yu Spa throughout the year. One of the reasons for this popularity is the well-equipped facilities, although it is not large in scale. Visitors can enjoy comfortable massage via jacuzzi in the big bath and seasonal flowers and trees and the star-filled night sky in the open-air bath. There is also a sauna bath.

After taking a bath, visitors can relax in a large tatami room with delicious food and beverages. There are also a natural organic garden and a gallery where seasonal landscapes of Oze painted by Shinbo Kogure can be appreciated. The restaurant offers dishes with local seasonal vegetables.

Another reason for the popularity of the Hanasaku-no-yu Spa is a farm stand where farm-fresh vegetables and fruits are sold. It is set up next to the entrance to the spa and opens at 8:30 a.m. The farm stand offers fresh farm crops harvested in the morning, which are so popular among visitors that there is a long line of people waiting for the opening of the stand. Since the hot spring spa opens 10:00 a.m., it seems that there are many people who come here for this morning market.

Coupled with the climate in the area where the temperature difference is quite extreme, the subsoil water of Mt. Hotaka creates not only tasty water, but also fertile soil best suited for the cultivation of vegetables and fruits.
(The farm stand is open from May to November.)
